An Independent Underground News & Talk Op/Ed

Maybe the floodgates have opened. Maybe Michigan Mainstream Media Resources will do the job ethically, citizens depend on.

Maybe this state’s Media will finally tell the truth about Michigan’s Governor Rick Snyder (R). Or Maybe not at all.

However, one Media resource took a giant leap towards a truth line on December 31, 2015, or the last day of the prior year. And this Media Group endorsed Michigan Governor Rick Snyder twice over in 2010 and 2014 — MLive.com.

“Gov. Rick Snyder apologized this week for his administration’s handling of the Flint water crisis, and the director and main spokesman of the Department of Environmental Quality each resigned,” MLive Editorial Board wrote December 31.

“That should be the beginning of the repairs necessary for this sad chapter, not the end.

The seeds of the water crisis began when the state installed an emergency financial manager to oversee Flint in 2011. While Flint local leaders bear the responsibility for their inability to manage the city’s finances, they were not in position of control when a decision was made to save money by switching the city’s drinking source. And as we know now, that resulted in elevated blood lead levels for untold numbers of Flint’s citizenry.

The apology, and the resignations, confirm that state leaders know they did not do enough when concerns were raised about water quality. In fact, attempts were made by the state and its appointed managers to place the blame for the switch on local Flint leaders. As the controversy unfolded, the Snyder administration tried to discredit health concerns raised by Flint citizens and doctors, then very late in the process acknowledged the mistakes that were made,” the Michigan Media Resource said.

Thus, our open letter to MLive Media Group begins as follows however, other traditional news resources in Michigan must equality heed the words below.

First, Thank You MLive’s Editorial Board.

Considering MLive endorsed Snyder for Governor, not just once but twice — it must be

shocking for this resource to see Rick Snyder for the incompetent liar he his.

Michigan’s Mainstream Media share much of the blame for Snyder being elected in this state — in the first place.

In retrospect, it appears the Media was either Brought Off or Backdoor Bargained into promoting the “One Tough Nerd” Mockery.

Likewise, our Michigan Media widely touted Snyder’s undemocratic Emergency Manager legislation as “best way” to repair the financial stress it was claimed some Michigan school districts, cities, townships, villages and counties were supposedly under. Nearly five years post Emergency Manager Laws 1.0 and 2.0- are we as a State any better than when Snyder started

The answer is no, not at all.

In fact Flint, Michigan is much, much worse.

Flint’s Toxic Water Crisis will cost billions upon possibly trillions of Michigan’s tax payers dollars to remedy, repair and address. Its impact on Flint’s children, adults and elders lead poisoned by sheer lack of “Relentless Positive Action” for Governor Snyder and the State Level Executive Departments he administers behalf, will continue for decades.

Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality and the State’s Health and Human Services organization failed miserably to protect Flint’s residents first – before protecting Governor Snyder’s lies about the City’s corroded lead filled water pipes

Another long fall from grace public official was for years-on-end hounded by nearly all of Michigan Mainstream Media resources for what he did to the State’s Largest City not long ago. Not to say that Detroit’s Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s actions were better – but at least Kilpatrick did not impact the long term health and welfare of Detroit residents with his schemes.

Sadly, Michigan’s Media for the most part, allowed Governor Snyder to continue lies on top of lies for nearly three years plus – as it directly relates to Flint’s Toxic Water Crisis. Frankly, these missteps are beyond shameful, on the level of despicable, and completely unethical to what the journalism profession claims to stand for.

If it was not for Flint’s Residents, the Michigan ACLU, Michigan Radio –the sole Mainstream Media Resource for months on end willing to courageously report on Flint’s Toxic Water Crisis — and Bloggers, the tragedy Flint’s citizens faced would still be pushed under rugs directly leading to Lansing’s Capitol and the Romney Building.

The lack of true governmental oversight as it connects to Flint’s Water Crisis and obvious cover up — is criminal. As criminal as what former Mayor Kilpatrick did to Detroit, plus 150% times worse.

Mayor Kilpatrick is in a Federal Prison for 27 more years.

Equally, the snake lines leading directly to Flint’s Water Crisis and anyone who knowingly covered up the water lead poisoning lies for years, demand a longer stent for 50 years or more in a Federal Penitentiary Institution.

Even that amount of time would not be long enough.

“We urge Snyder to take a series of corrective actions to ensure transparency, heal a wounded city and re-establish confidence in the political process:

  • Drop executive privilege and release all of his communications on Flint water.
  • Request an investigation from the U.S. Attorney’s office so that subpoenas can be issued.
  • Replace every lead water service line in the city of Flint.
  • Start a process for compensating families whose children have elevated levels of lead in their blood.
  • Return Flint to local control,” MLive’s Editorial Board wrote on December 31.

MLive has stepped up to call for a Federal Investigation. Will other Michigan Mainstream Media Resources do the same — or just accept Snyder’s lame “apology“?

Time — Will—Tell.
