Duck Dynasty celebrity Phil Robertson
IU News & Talk – Food for Thought

“Words matter. In America we have a presumed right to free speech. Presumed is the correct word as free speech has consequences, albeit temporarily.”
Yelling fire in a crowded theatre will likely result in criminal charges for using such a word. Committing insubordination against a supervisor usually ends with the employee without a job.
Reality television instant celebrity Phil Robertson decided to practice his version of Free Speech in a upcoming January 2014 interview in G.Q. or Gentlemen Quarterly Magazine.
While speaking freely to G.Q’s reporter Robertson disparaged the LGBT and African-American communities with his words.
Speaking on his opposition to the LGBT lifestyle or sexual preferences, Robertson said the following:
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” Robertson expressed to G.Q. reporter Drew Magary. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
Robertson carried on to explain the inherent differences between a male and female biological make up: “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
In a quote that may raise even more eyebrows than his feelings about gays, Robertson claims he “never” saw black people mistreated during the pre-civil rights era in his home state, and strongly suggests that African Americans were more content under Jim Crow.
“Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash,” he said. “They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
Robertson words were insulting and frankly distasteful. Still, Robertson had a right to say each and every one of the syllables expressed in long and extended paragraphs. Equality, Robertson’s publicly traded cable broadcast network employer, A&E, had every right to terminate the Duck Dynasty patriarch contract as a result of his words.

African-Americans experienced in the

the South. You know, the ones’ Robertson claimed to know oh so well.
According to the multi-millionaire Louisianian, African-Americans pre-civil rights era and all, were happy, signing and down right jolly. While working for pennies in Southern fields picking cotton, attending to needs of farm animals, being denied the right to vote and worse equal opportunity to sit at a lunch counter where another African-American did not own the establishment, “the Blacks” as Robertson claimed — were “Happy”.
Robertson popular buzz words “entitlement” and “free stuff” are used frequency on the political right and secretly in hollow darken halls on the political left. Cross-associating African-Americans with Welfare or some inherent need for Entitlements.
To make his words stick wherever Robertson opines count, the Duck Dynasty celebrity used two other words which makes nearly each and every African-American form an invisible pit of fire in the stomach, “The Blacks”.
To correct Robertson’s assertions statistically, Caucasians receive “Entitlements” or “Free Stuff” close to the same levels as African-Americans.
A September 2013 report from the US Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Commerce found 38.8 percent of welfare recipients are White versus 39.8 percent African-Americans receive government funded cash assistance.

A 2010 TDF.org report denoted Louisiana and Mississippt,
Southern states with a checkered history on Civil Rights for
African-Americans, have the highest percentages of Americans
living at or below poverty levels.
In this case, the Duck Dynasty celebrity is to date, indefinitely suspended for appearing in any A&E network associated programming. Still, restassured despite being removed from A&E temporary, this is not Robertson’s last rodeo.
Supporters associated with America’s politically aligned right-wing — including Wasilla, Alaska drifter and half-term Governor Sarah Palin – areready to fight for the long-beard Louisiana resident swift appearance back on a television screen near you. And sure as it snows in the Midwest States during Winter, some Hollywood Executive will soon be willing to throw again the LGBT and African American communities under the bus, in pursuit of the all mighty greenback dollar.
