Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) speaks at a
Michigan Republican Party sponsored press conference
in Detroit, December 6,
“Media resources steeplechase over each other to cover Republican /Libertarian Presidential hopeful Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) visit to Detroit, Michigan which was sponsored by the Detroit Economic Club and the Republican National Committee. The visit focus points: Opening of a GOP outreach office in the Motor City and Paul’s so-called Speech before the Economic Club. Frankly, following the first term Senator around on his “visit to the D” was complete waste valuable of time. Why so?”
Food for Thought – Saturday, December 7:
Paul speech in before the Detroit Economic Club December 5 was titled as ‘Renewing the Opportunity for Prosperity: Economic Freedom Zones‘.
Freedom Zones huh? Interesting word choice.
Because when newly-elected Senator Paul appeared on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow program May 19, 2010, the Kentuckian definition of freedom and economic matters was quite, different.
“I’m not in favor of any discrimination of any form,” he responded. “I would never belong to any club that excluded anybody for race. We still do have private clubs in America that can discriminate based on race. But I think what’s important about this debate is not written into any specific ‘gotcha’ on this, but asking the question: What about freedom of speech?,” Paul decried.
“Should we limit speech from people we find abhorrent? Should we limit racists from speaking? . . . I don’t want to be associated with those people, but I also don’t want to limit their speech in any way in the sense that we tolerate boorish and uncivilized behavior because that’s one of the things freedom requires.”
Boorish and uncivilized society you say Senator Paul?
Free Speech can be defined by words or actions. Including downright reprehensible actions such as opposition the free flow of commerce by denying service to certain minority groups based on race:

Or sexual orientation:
Investopedia explains the meaning of Commerce in a statement: “When properly managed, commercial activity can quickly enhance the standard of living in a nation and increase its standing in the world. However, when commerce is allowed to run unregulated, large businesses can become too powerful and impose negative externalities on citizens for the benefit of the business owners,”
Senator Paul supports certain C.E.O.’s, Wall Street Tycoons, business owners and the ALEC affiliated Think-Tank organization mission, imposing negative and in most cases illegal consequences on citizens; using questionable means to limit or cease the regulation choice in commerce.
Paul likewise has difficulties understanding where fine lines are crossed, when it comes to defending racist statements, innuendos or actions. Salon.com August 7 described after Paul was asked about his former staff member Jack Hunter past, which included praising the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln while working as a conservative radio shock jock, the U.S. Senator defended Hunter actions during a NPR interview.
For the record, Detroit, Michigan population is over 80 percent African-American, as it currently stands.
Apprehensions about the Motor City’s future exist, in light of U.S. Federal Court Judge Steven Rhodes December 2 decision granting Governor Rick Snyder (R) and appointed Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy petition, for Detroit.
But, Senator Paul offered no concrete plans to deal with economic inequalities African-Americans experience in Michigan’s largest city after announcing his “Economic Freedom Zone” plan to local media.
“Yourselves” is oh so very close to the questionable race baiting statement “You People”, as stated earlier in this article, Senator Rand Paul’s visit to Detroit was indeed a complete and utter waste of time, not worth one ounce of media attention received.
